A weekend of contrasts, from a very hot and sunny Saturday to a very wet Sunday. Friday was ‘memorable’ for several lineside fires resulting in assistance being called from the fire brigade. Although many could be beaten out, once the fire gets into the ground then water is required to douse it all down. This was particularly true south of the station when Chris Ware and Simon B used the Womble Fire Train aka a PW trolley with 4 wheelie bins full of water to get water to site and damp down the lineside.
Saturday was a painting day for Alexa when the N end of the Palvan received its first topcoat. Elsewhere Stephen set out the main poles for the marquee and continued the sort out inside our workshop. During the afternoon Graham Reussners family came down to scatter his ashes on our station. Graham, as well as being the railways Archivist was also one of the founder restorers at Levisham station and a member of the North Eastern Railway Coach Group who saved our workshop coach, 945 and the Clerestory coach.
Sunday was marquee erection day ready for next weekends 60’s event when Shadows Music and Shazam will be playing in the paddock. There will also be the beer tent here with beer from York Brewery available as well as Weighbridge Teas and the Paddock tea hut. We have also had a midi digger here cleaning the lineside and ditch south west of the station. It will be here for the next few weekends so we can get the job sorted. Alexa also managed to paint the end of the Palvan in topcoat, the end of the exhibition van in undercoat and the side sanded ready for paint on a dry day! The S&T have again been here wiring up the HD link equipment. Still a few more weeks to go.
There are some photos of young Alexander and Beth on the website now. All being well they will be down next weekend.
