11th July2010

A long weekend by some started on Wednesday evening. The VEA now has its topcoats on the 2 ends and dock side complete and very smart it looks too. We have now commenced on the station yard side of these 3 vans with the Palvan doors now sporting drab undercoat. Thanks to Martyn and Alexa for the paintwork.
A couple of small lineside fires were attended to on Thursday with assistance from the Fire Brigade to damp down the area.
The cottage extension bedroom now sports a ‘new’ carpet thanks to Eric and Janet Barraclough – its much softer on the feet as well! The excess carpet has gone towards a new cover for the compost heap. Tony has returned to the station after helping Goathland station group fix their new noticeboards and commenced restoring another double size board we have had in store for many years. Friday commenced with a trip to the brewery for 5 barrels of beer before the stage was set up, the ale tent erected and the yard prepared for the weekend.
Vintage Vehicle weekend was again very popular with 30 vehicles on Saturday and around 50 on Sunday. In addition we had our miniature traction engines again with 7 and 5 respectively. Thanks to Elaine and Kevin for organising the engines plus managing the yard on both days. Across in the paddock Jive Express on Saturday and Shadows Music on Sunday played to the crowds and the real ale bar nearly ran out – around 12 pints were left out of 360. Both Weighbridge Teas and our Tea Hut were open again and doing a roaring trade. Thanks to all the helpers, I cannot remember all your names but there are quite a few of you. With the end of the event the beer tent had to come down, plus the bar and barrel rack and the main marquee had to be tidied up and sealed shut as it is required in a fortnight for a private event.
Alex is doing fine and is enjoying the company of his many surrogate grandparents. He is still not fazed by steam and diesel engines fortunately, even when they toot alongside.

As Simon cannot remember our names the regular Weighbridge Gang are Doreen, Janice, Malcolm & Tony. This weekend we have been aided and abetted by Keith, Christine, Katrina, David, Elaine, Anne, Paul, Robert and June. Richard has also helped in the beer tent.
